July 10-Back on the road, to the ferry

Another day of driving, grateful for the off day yesterday.  A gorgeous drive from Fundy north along Hwy 114, heading to Moncton.  Back on Hwy 2, good freeway road, but not the most scenic.  The drive through the north part of Nova Scotia to me was the hardest part, as we were tired of the hard core driving days, and the guys fell asleep so I was left to my own thoughts for many hours.  The highlight of the day was watching Rob drooling over the antenna array in Sackville NB where Radio Canada International transmits all around the world.  It was unbelievable how many different systems they had all mixed up together on the huge property. By now we have fueled up a few times, prices ranging from $1.20-$1.31 a litre.  Once arriving in North Sydney where the ferry comes in, we picked up a few groceries, anticipating prices would be higher once we were off the mainland.   Real sticker shock when we saw the price of milk.  In Ontario, 4L in bags is $3.99 in many stores.  In Quebec you can still get milk in bags, but the price jumped a bit.  Eastern Canada had no bagged milk, and the price was at least double what we pay at home.  Bread was double as well, as was beef, but seafood was at least half the price.

We got to the line-up spot for the ferry way too early, we were there by 3:30 and there was nothing to do, so we chatted with the others waiting in line (esp. Rob, he met all sorts of folks) and I made sandwiches and nibbles for the ferry ride.  We were boarded starting at 6:30, and left by 8 pm.  The crossing was uneventful, but would have loved a pillow and blanket as we stretched out on the floor to sleep.  We had been warned that laying on the floor was not allowed, but we were way off in a corner and not bothering anyone, so we were left alone.  Food bought on the ferry was very expensive, so I was glad we had brought some stuff, so we just bought a treat. (580 kms, 6 1/2 hours driving)

Trailers packed like sardines on the open deck-passenger vehicles were all inside

TV to watch
TV to watch, bar down the way, snack bar in the middle, and free WiFi signal make the trip pass well enough
